Basildon Market Square is a mixed-use development located within Basildon’s Town Centre. SoftSim Consult was involved in wind microclimate modelling to support the design teams in improving the comfort and safety conditions at the site.
Wind modelling was completed through steady-state atmospheric boundary layer simulations. Thus, pedestrian comfort and safety levels were approximated based on the standard Lawson criteria. New mitigation measures and improvements to the soft landscape were proposed and tested. Thus, council authorities approved development schemes for construction.
